The main characteristic of bamboo is to be a grass. Do not consider a pole with its branch as an entity but as a component of the bamboo field, the "blade of grass" is connected to the resources of the "meadow" through its network of rhizomes.
The importance and the strength of a bamboo field determines the size of adults poles.
To some extent the water is relayed by rhizomes, a network of pipes, covering such as an octopus the water points.
Crops - The stems should be cut when they are three to five years old. Before, the wood is not resistant enough, after they are too.
Maintenance- The stems and leaves can be pruned. In this photo where the stem was cut soon after the telescopic growth, the new branches have taken the place remained vacant. Dwarf bamboo can be cropped regularly.
However when cut a bamboo receives a trauma, it is best to wait at least that the rod is fully grown in length.
The bamboo is invasive (mainly the running species). It is advisable if you want to contain the growth to remove the tender shoots of the ground in early spring. If you wait too long then the work will require more time and energy.
Bamboo is mainly composed of silicon. It is preferable not to remove the dead leaves of bamboo (which will be re-cycled) to avoid soil exhaustion.
